Full Coverage!

Have you ever been in a car accident? It’s your fault. Yes, you have insurance! WHEW! But wait! When you file a claim to have your car repaired and get a rental so you will continue to have transportation, you discover that you only have liability to cover the car and driver you hit. You vaguely remember the conversation you had with your insurance agent when you turned down purchasing full coverage, because you couldn’t afford it (and you didn’t realize its significant protection). Now, you find yourself lacking.

In the sixth chapter of the book of Ephesians, Paul instructs us to “Put on the whole armor of God that we may be able to stand against the whiles of the devil.” Ephesians 6:11

The Apostle Paul “fought a good fight” and understood what it took to “contend for the faith” as a Christian Soldier. He knew about the “whiles of the devil” and that the Christian fight is “not against flesh and blood”. He had, no doubt, battled “against the rulers of darkness of this world” and “against spiritual wickedness in high places”. Paul described the spiritual representation of each piece of the Christian armor and the part of the body it should cover for protection.

In the midst of Paul’s instruction, almost as if he wanted to say it before he forgot, he said “Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.” (vs 16).

Covered from head to toe in armor, yet, “above all…the shield of faith”; Just in case my righteousness (breastplate) is lacking or my truth (belt) is wavering, my salvation (helmet) is tarnished or my peace (shoes) is missing. The “shield of faith”, trusting and believing in every Word of God and His ability to deliver me from every destructive weapon formed and hurled at me by the devil, will cover every area I have fallen short of covering.

All too often, we find ourselves lacking full coverage in our walk with God; But if we have faith…”above all”…we will be fully covered and, like the three Hebrew boys (Daniel 3), escape the destructive fire without as much as the smell or singe.

Ask yourself, “As I walk with God, can I afford to go without full coverage?” Take the shield of faith!
